·        Question & Answer Period

Q:  Needs of the community relative to tourism development?

A:   Require a balance – the Chamber supports the change in the City Bylaws to permit residential commercial development on the waterfront.

Q:  How much revenue comes from tourism?

A:   Tourism spending approximately $70,000,000, which is equal to resident’s spending.

Q:  Chamber response to City of Parksville Transportation Plan?

A:   If it stays the way it is, it will be unproductive.  We must encourage people from the beach into the downtown core.  Highway 19A is now the fastest way through the city, this attitude must change.  Signage and education will help.  Goal is to slow down traffic and get people to stop and shop by diverting traffic.

Councillor Jim Banks:         The city is appreciative of all the efforts from the Chamber.  Requested a response from the ODCA to resolve the problem of getting people back and forth across the highway and up and down the hill safely from the beach to downtown and visa versa.

Rob Hill thanked Mark Lafebvre for his informative and interesting presentation.
